HTC Merge
Today HTC officially announced the Merge, a new Android 2.2 Froyo powered smartphone that offers a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The Merge is HTC's first Android-powered CDMA device capable of roaming around the globe.
The Merge offers a 3.8-inch touchscreen display, a 5MP camera that's capable of shooting 720p video. Other features include GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connectivity. For now, specs on the device are relatively slim, but we wouldn't be surprised to hear it runs on a 1GHz Qualcomm Snadpragon processor, like most of HTC's other new devices. Unlike the ThunderBolt, headed to Verizon Wireless, there's no mention of support for 4G networks.
This isn't the first time we've heard of the Merge, either. Back in November there were leaked product images of the device with Verizon Wireless labeling. Given its CDMA connectivity (and global GSM support), we wouldn't be surprised to see this launch on both Verizon and Sprint as a global device.
HTC says the Merge will launch on multiple North American carriers beginning this spring. It did not name any of the carriers and has not listed any pricing information, either.
