Samsung Galaxy S 4G Android smartphone for T-Mobile USA preview

The successor to the very popular Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant is finally here, the Galaxy S 4G. As its name indicates, the handset offers support for T-Mobile's HSPA+ 4G data network and will support theoretical download speeds of up to 21Mbps. We had a chance to check out the device first-hand to bring you some images.

The Galaxy S 4G runs on Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system and otherwise looks very similar to its predecessor. The handset is powered by speedy 1GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor, which makes browsing and messaging simple.

The device is nearly identical to the T-Mobile Vibrant, save for its HSPA+ support, forward-facing camera, and Wi-Fi calling support.

The massive and bright 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display renders 720p HD video smoothly taken with its 5MP rear facing camera. Samsung also added a front facing camera for video chatting on Qik. As expected the devices comes with full access to all of Google's mobile services, including Google Search, Gmail, YouTube, and Google Maps.

The Galaxy S 4G will also offer mobile HD TV and comes preloaded with the movie Inception on it. Samsung was kind enough to drop in a 1650mAh battery for folks that need lots of talk time, a step up from the Vibrant's 1500 mAh.

The Samsung Galaxy S 4G will go on sale with T-Mobile USA starting February 23 for $149.99 with a qualifying two year service contract.
